Preparing for the Food Safety Manager Exam? These Tips Can Help

There’s a lot to worry about when managing any food retail business. Keeping customers happy, properly training employees, all while maintaining stellar business operations is incredibly demanding. It can become overwhelming to add another item to your to-do list, especially when the task includes passing an exam. You know that becoming a certified food safety manager is important—it may even be mandated where you work.

Take a deep breath: you can achieve a passing grade and relieve your test anxiety by taking some simple steps to prepare for your food safety manager exam.

What is the formula for passing the food safety manager exam?

The ideal study practices for this exam are straightforward and easy to access and put to use.

  • Visit the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals’ Exam Center and take advantage of whichever learning formats provided there are best for you.
  • Look at the Manager Examination Blueprint to learn about the types of questions that will be on your exam.
  • Create a study guide around the Examination Blueprint and highlight areas of weakness as well as key terms and any section that induces more anxiety than others.
  • Apply extra inspections and mirrored food training in your work area to reinforce the rules and regulations that you are studying. You’ll reinforce the material and also benefit your store and team members.
  • Garner information about state and local regulations for a food safety manager from your local regulatory agency.
  • Review the Examinee Information Booklet for a complete rundown of testing methods, requirements for examinees, and the exam itself.
